ABOUT US

Matt Chong

My expertise is diverse, thanks to years of experience in marketing, operations, sales and strategy. The first chapter of my career began in radio at LA’s 92.3 KKBT-FM, starting in guerrilla marketing. Pre social media, our function was focused completely on experiential marketing, with an emphasis on driving brand awareness and growing listenership through both event activations and on-air call-ins. Eventually this grew into independent promotion opportunities with various record labels (Def Jam, Interscope, Capitol, MCA, etc). During this time, I built relationships with top mix show DJs and radio programmers and record executives across the country, and leveraged relationships to drive radio play for music prioritized by record label clients. I left the music industry in 2002 to start my first business in my hometown of Sacramento, CA.

Upon returning to Northern California, I co-founded Infusion Cafe, in the newly redeveloped area of Midtown Sacramento. The business reflected juxtapositions of culture, design, music, art and food - and made a large impact on the launch of Second Saturday in Sacramento. While fruitful in experience, the business was not sustainable, so I returned to corporate marketing work in 2006.

My marketing experience led to opportunities in telecom with Sprint subsidiaries, Boost Mobile and Virgin Mobile, where I drove sales in Northern California. I was then promoted to helm marketing efforts in the Northern California and Hawaii markets with a focus on marketing strategy, media planning/buying, event activations and sponsorships.

In 2010, my interest in cooking and food culture introduced me to blogging and content creation as a hobby. By 2012, the awareness of my blog had grown into an opportunity to partner on an up-and-coming food truck - Wicked ‘Wich. Soon after, I helped grow it into a brick-and-mortar restaurant called Broderick Roadhouse. This was when I took a leap of faith and left my corporate marketing job to run the growing business.

During this time, businesses were not actively marketing on social media yet - so I picked up a camera and started to market the restaurant on social media. I combined my knowledge of guerrilla marketing, blogging, along with my traffic driving experience at Boost Mobile. That helped to drive people to what was considered, an undesirable neighborhood in West Sacramento. Within 3 years, the tiny restaurant was exceeding $2M in gross sales per year, while still in its original location. By the time I left the organization in 2016 - it had grown to 3 different locations and two licensing deals.

The love of food and culture encouraged me to continue my foray into content creation. I’m currently the primary photographer/videographer for all of our clients. In forming a close relationship with everyone we work with, I’ve been able to tailor a unique visual style that best reflects each of our clients’ personalities and audiences.

SOREATH HOK

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been obsessed with media production and understanding what truly happens behind-the-scenes. This has been the foundation of what I do at DISRUPT Marketing for our clients.

My career started in radio, at my local college radio station (KFSR FM) at Fresno State. I loved curating playlists and creating an atmosphere for listeners. That turned into my first job in local TV where I worked every single production role. I found that it was the producer seat that called to me. The fast paced work environment and constantly changing conditions met my drive to create.

After more than 10 years as a producer, and two Emmy nominations (most recently at KCRA), I wanted to try something different. In the advertising space, I was able to apply everything I knew about production into project management, content creation and strategy. Although I was working with national ad campaigns (Clif Bar, E & J Gallo Winery), I knew small businesses had the biggest opportunities for growth with creative marketing.

I’ve always had a passion for small business. My family has owned and operated a donut shop for most of my life, and I have a deep, emotional understanding of the challenges of running your own business. I knew I could use my knowledge to help other businesses be successful, and social media became the perfect medium. DISRUPT Marketing is where I get to exercise all my skills at once. But one of my favorite things is video production. I’m an editor at heart. And as a journalist, I understand the nuances of storytelling and how to tailor them for each of our clients. We do more than social media. We’re building unique brand identity and relationships on a deeper level with our clients.
